Sailing Clouds

I call this image "Sailing Clouds" as the cloud formations remind me of sailing ships with trailing wake. It was taken in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, America's largest national park (six times the size of Yellowstone), located in southeast Alaska where the panhandle joins the main part of the state. It borders Canada, which has the adjoining Kluane National Park. Together the two parks boast many of the tallest peaks in North America, including Mt. Wrangell, pictured here at 14,163 ft. Wrangell-St. Elias alone contains 9 of the 16 largest peaks in America.

This picture was taken in the western edge of the park near the town of Chitina. From here I drove east on the rocky McCarthy Road into the heart of the park, following generally the course of the Chitina River to the towns of McCarthy and Kennicott.
